Golden Globes 2026: Mark Ruffalo explains his ‘Be Good’ badge

Mark Ruffalo attended the 2026 Golden Globes event ceremony sporting a badge displaying ‘Be Good’, prompting some probing as to what’s behind the statement.

Along with comedian Wanda Sykes and various industry figures wearing similar badges, the ‘Best male actor in a television series – drama’ nominee was quizzed by USA Today on the sentiment behind his pin’s message.

“This is for her,” Ruffalo responded, referencing the recent fatal shooting of Renee Good by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent Jonathan Ross in Minneapolis. “This is for the people in the United States who are terrorised and scared today. I know I’m one of them. I love this country, and what I’m seeing here happening is not America.”

Later, after querying whether the Golden Globes were a suitable platform for such a message, Ruffalo candidly professed, “This is not normal anymore, and so I don’t know how I could be quiet…”

The ‘Be Good’ badges are part of the American Civil Liberties Union’s #BeGood campaign, an initiative supported by advocacy groups including Maremoto, National Domestic Workers Alliance, and Working Families Power in encouraging compassion and civic responsibility amid the febrile political climate surrounding reports that 2025 was “ICE’s deadliest year in the past two decades.”

According to the ACLU’s mission, the badges stand as a reminder “to be good to one another in the face of such horror – to be a good citizen, neighbour, friend, ally and human.”

The profile of the #BeGood campaign accelerated after the shooting of 37-year-old Good on a residential street in Portland Avenue South, sparking outrage and protests in Minneapolis and beyond, demanding accountability from law enforcement and President Donald Trump’s administration.

The campaign has also been linked to the New Year’s Eve killing of Los Angeles resident Keith Porter, shot by an off-duty ICE agent.

Ruffalo lost his ‘Best male actor in a television series – drama’ nomination to Noah Wyle for his performance in The Pitt.
