Godfrey Gao, The Mortal Instruments actor, has died aged 35 after collapsing on set
Godfrey Gao, the Taiwanese-Canadian actor best known for his role as Magnus Bane in the 2013 film adaptation of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, has died at the age of 35.
It has been reported that Gao collapsed while filming for Chase Me, a Chinese reality show which asked its celebrity guests to compete in a race. The producers of the show claimed that the actor began to slow down before collapsing to the ground.
Gao later died in hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest.
According to Chinese news media outlets, he collapsed at around 02:00 local time: “Guest participant Godfrey suddenly collapsed to the ground while running,” the show’s management said in a statement. “The programme’s on-site paramedics began lifesaving measures immediately and urgently transported him to the hospital.”
They added. “After two hours of all-out efforts to save him, the hospital [said] he had suffered a sudden cardiac death.”
Born in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1984, Gai moved to Vancouver with his family where he was raised for his entire childhood. As well as his highly celebrated acting roles, Gao made history by becoming the first Asian model to appear in a campaign for Louis Vuitton.
