Glastonbury 2025: ‘Emerging Talent Competition’ details announced

Glastonbury Festival has unveiled details of their ‘Emerging Talent Competition’ for 2025, in collaboration with PRS for Music and the PRS Foundation.

The competition winners will be given a set at the iconic festival on one of the major stages, as well as a £5,000 Talent Development prize from the PRS Foundation. The two runners-up will also receive a £2,500 Talent Development prize from the charity. The competition is free to enter for acts in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Previous winners of the ‘Emerging Talent Competition’ at Glastonbury include Declan McKenna and N’famady Kouyaté. Significantly, English Teacher, runners-up in 2022, went on to win the Mercury Prize in 2024 for their debut album, This Could Be Texas.

Acts from any musical genre are encouraged to enter the competition, which is set to open on January 27th at 9:00am and close on February 3rd at 17:00pm.

Crispin Hunt, President of the PRS Members’ Council, said of this year’s competition: “For more than 20 years the ‘Emerging Talent Competition’ has discovered and nurtured new voices, created a global platform and offered musicians the opportunity to gain exposure in front of large audiences.”

Hunt continued: “Playing Glastonbury was one of the most amazing experiences of my career and I’d encourage all music creators to submit a song for a chance to perform at the world’s largest greenfield music and performing arts festival. With our charity arm, PRS Foundation, I’m proud that we continue to support artists and songwriters stepping up and into the live and festival scene.”

Meanwhile, Glastonbury co-organiser Emily Eavis added: “We know how hard it is for new acts to take their first steps towards a career in music – particularly with the challenges facing small venues in this country – so the ‘Emerging Talent Competition’ is a hugely important part of Glastonbury’s annual calendar. I can’t wait to hear the entries from across all the musical genres. And it’s free to enter, so you’ve nothing to lose!”

Neil Young and The Chrome Hearts were recently confirmed as headliners of the Pyramid Stage for Glastonbury in June, marking Young’s second appearance at the prestigious festival. The only other act announced to play is Rod Stewart, who is set to fill the legend’s slot on the Sunday afternoon of the event.
