Glastonbury 2024: Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker to perform at festival
Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker has been listed in the programme at Glastonbury Festival to perform at Worthy Farm this coming weekend, Far Out can confirm.
While Tame Impala aren’t currently touring, with their last live performance taking place in Brazil over 12 months ago, Parker looks set to appear at Pilton for a DJ set at 1:00am on the Firmly Rooted Soundsystem. On the official Glastonbury website, the slot between 1:00am and 2:00am on the early hours of June 29th is currently listed as ‘TBA’, however, the official programme suggests otherwise.
If the brackets weren’t enough of an indicator to prove it was indeed the same Kevin Parker who gave us beloved songs such as ‘The Less I Know The Better’ and ‘Feels Like We Only Go Backwards’, the blurb underneath his name reads, “The Antipodean psychedelic rock icon takes to the decks”.
Parker has a storied history with Glastonbury with Tame Impala, notably, his outfit headlined The Other Stage in 2019, having previously performed at the festival in 2016 and 2013. With their last set, Tame Impala made a case for themselves as future headliners, but in 2024, a DJ set will have to suffice fan’s appetite to see them take to the Pyramid Stage.
Although Parker has mainly worked as a producer in recent years, he does infrequently step behind the decks on special occasions, and Glastonbury attendees are in for a rare treat courtesy of the Australian.
As his set takes place mere hours after Dua Lipa’s headline performance, the rumour mill is likely to burst into overdrive that he’ll join the English pop star as a special guest during her performance. Parker co-wrote and co-produced Dua’s third album, Radical Optimism, earlier this year.
Upon the album’s release, the Tame Impala maestro wrote on Instagram: Don’t think I’ve ever been so proud of something I’ve worked on on release day. Shout out to the rest of the geniuses too. Infinitely grateful to be a part of it.”
Furthermore, during an interview with Apple Music, Lipa discussed her Glastonbury headline set and said it was her “biggest dream”. She also hinted that Parker would “maybe” make an appearance during the show, which now looks increasingly likely.
The festival will also welcome acts such as Idles, Fontaines D.C., Justice, Jamie xx, The National, The Breeders, PJ Harvey, LCD Soundsystem, The Last Dinner Party, The Streets and Bloc Party to Pilton.
Glastonbury Festival is set to run from June 26th until June 30th and Far Out will be on the ground at Worthy Farm to provide coverage directly from Pilton. This year’s event will be headlined by Dua Lipa, Coldplay and SZA.
