Glastonbury 2024: Shania Twain lifts lid on plans for legends slot

With her legends slot on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival only days away, Shania Twain has provided an insight into what fans should expect from the highly-anticipated set.

The legends slot typically promises to deliver a stand-out moment from the entire festival, with Yusuf Stevens taking to the mantle in 2023. In other recent instalments, iconic artists such as Diana Ross, Dolly Parton, Jeff Lynne, Barry Gibb, Lionel Richie, Paul Simon, Kenny Rogers, Ray Davies and Tom Jones.

While it’s not classified as a headliner, the artist occupying the legends slot can often expect to attract the most significantly sized crowd of the entire weekend of festivities. Despite the pressure that arises from a slot of such seismic magnitude, Twain is ready for the challenge.

Although many artists attempt to play it cool before performing at Worthy Farm, Twain described it as “a real wow moment in my career” and “a one of a kind” event during a new interview with Ken Bruce on Greatest Hits Radio.

Ahead of the performance, Twain has been inundated with tales from friends about Glastonbury, noting, “The closer it comes, the more everybody tells me about it in their own individual stories as well their own experiences. Everyone seems to be such a dedicated fan of the festival, it sounds as though it’s a very bonding experience for everybody.”

When it comes to her setlist, Twain is planning to play all the hits, ensuring the Glastonbury crowd will be in full voice for the performance. She explained, “I plan on singing everything that everybody knows so there’s no guessing. It’s just all about the hits. It’s all about singing together and having fun. It’s all about the shoulder-to-shoulder experience, isn’t it? Everybody wants to just sing along and sway along.”

Additionally, Twain sees the chance to play in the daytime as a blessing because it means she’ll “be able to see all the way to the back. I’ll be able to see the scope, the view because I see the audience as a unit.”

The singer-songwriter added: “I really feel like it’s an environment and all the energy is individual. And I love the people watching. I love to watch people.”

Twain signed off by stating her ambitions to “make history” and described the legends slot as a “dream performance”.

Aside from performances by Twain, Glastonbury will also welcome acts such as Idles, Fontaines D.C., Justice, Jamie xx, The National, The Breeders, PJ Harvey, LCD Soundsystem, The Last Dinner Party, The Streets and Bloc Party to Pilton.

Electronic duo Groove Armada were previously set to perform at the Stonebridge Bar on Thursday, June 27th, however, due to fears of overcrowding, they will now play at the larger-capacity Glade Arena on Sunday, June 30th.

Far Out will be on the ground at Worthy Farm to provide coverage directly from Pilton. This year’s event will be headlined by Dua Lipa, Coldplay and SZA.
