Glastonbury 2024: Special guest Sam Smith joins Disclosure for ‘Latch’

During their headline set on The Other Stage at Glastonbury Festival on June 29th, electronic duo Disclosure took things back to the start as Sam Smith joined them for their hit collaboration, ‘Latch’.

While Smith is now one of the biggest pop stars in the world, having recorded a James Bond theme that won an Academy Award and is a festival headliner in their own right, the singer was an unknown when they recorded their vocals for ‘Latch’.

The track, which appeared on Disclosure’s debut album Settle, was released as the lead single from the LP in 2012, and helped put both artists on the map. As both Disclosure and Smith weren’t household names when it first arrived, it took a couple of years to truly become a hit, and to date, it has been streamed over a billion times on Spotify alone.

Upon featuring on ‘Latch’, Smith was still yet to release his debut single, and the success of the collaboration provided ample anticipation for his solo career, which was launched a few months later.

By the summer of 2013, Disclosure had released Settle and Smith was still firmly emerging, notably joining the band at a series of festivals, such as Reading & Leeds. They were also there to perform when Disclosure performed at Alexandra Palace for the first time in 2014, a pivotal moment in their career.

Therefore, despite now being a bigger name than Disclosure across the world, Smith still had to be there and contribute to the duo’s headline set on The Other Stage, where they provided an upbeat antidote to Coldplay on The Pyramid Stage.

Upon ‘Latch’ reaching a billion streams in May, Disclosure shared footage from a video call with Smith, in which the singer dotes about how “the song was made in such a homegrown way”, and they discussed meeting at the pub before heading to the recording studio to make the track which changed all of their lives.

Smith also hinted at a Glastonbury appearance, stating, “The last time we performed the song live was at Victoria Park (2022), right? We need to celebrate in the summer when we’re all together. I think we all know when we might be together.”

Disclosure’s Guy Lawrence then signed off with a knowing smile by saying, “There’s that thing coming up.”

After all the hints and speculation, Disclosure and Sam Smith have finally reunited at Worthy Farm for a spectacular celebration of their friendship, which is still going strong more than a decade after they recorded ‘Latch’.

On June 30th, Glastonbury is set to be headlined by SZA. Other acts performing include Burna Boy, Shania Twain, The National, Two Door Cinema Club, Avril Lavigne, Soft Play, James, Justice, Romy and Kim Gordon.
