LA duo Girlpool are long time Far Out favourites with their unabashed and unrepentant raw sound, which screams like the bratty punk bastard child of Sid Vicious and Paris Hilton. But for the cover of Big Star’s 1972 song ‘Thirteen’ from the LP #1 Record Cleo and Harmony take a more cultured approach. It is these beautiful tones and swelling vocals which make this our Track of the Day.

It’s gentle sound is chorally succinct, playing on the Americana-nuance of it’s lyrics the girls play harmoniously with the tracks lifts and falls to construct and complete an indie-dreaming track that Zach Braff would have wet dreams over.

As Alex Chilton’s infamous “Rock and Roll is here to say” is majestically uttered Girlpool continue to firm their positions as artists, showing they can not only get rough and tough but show a gentle touch to turn a classic rock anthem into an modern indie gem.

With their self-titled EP out on 17th November via Wichita Records and a European tour which continues at The Hope in Brighton tonight, Girlpool are an absolute must for girls, boys and anything in-between. Tucker and Tividad may only be young upstarts in the eyes of many, very stupid critics, but damn they mean business and they ain’t afraid to show it.
