Giancarlo Esposito calls for a “revolution” in reaction to ICE
Actor Giancarlo Esposito has called for a “revolution” in reaction to the surge in ICE troops in Minneapolis, under the order of President Donald Trump.
Esposito made the comments during the Sundance Film Festival, where he was attending the premiere of his new crime thriller, The Only Living Pickpocket in New York.
The Emmy-nominated actor was asked about his reaction to the news coming out of Minneapolis, where ICE agents are causing an increase in political unrest on the streets. “This is time for a revolution, and they don’t even know that’s what they’re starting,” he told Variety.
The star added, “We have to stand up to it. They can’t take us all down. If the whole world showed up on Putin’s doorstep or the Iranians’ doorstep or in Washington, they’d kill 500 or 50 million or however [many] but the rest of us would survive with a new [world].”
Esposito then added, “Some very rich old white men are exerting their power to suppress our own people, thus creating a feeling of civil war in the streets, preparing the haters to hate, teaching them how to shoot. This is all a preparation for a very insidious problem that’s happening in our world.”
Turning his attention to his own moral responsibility, he added, “And for me, I have to speak out. We will not be ICE’d out. This is not going to happen.”
This isn’t the first time Esposito has used his platform to express his political views. In 2020, Esposito celebrated Joe Biden’s triumph in the presidential election, writing on X: “Democracy wins. You and I win. Democrats and Republicans win.”
He continued at the time, “Voices were heard. Votes were counted. Principles were honored. We can begin the journey back by honoring human beings of all nations and parties. We are Americans!”
Many other stars have been using their platform to call out ICE, such as Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, Mark Ruffalo, Bruce Springsteen, and many more.
