Gerard Butler reveals he shot ‘Den of Thieves 2: Pantera’ with a torn ACL
The newest movie featuring Gerard Butler, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, is released on cinemas today, but the Scottish actor has revealed that filming the project didn’t come without its difficulties due to his ACL injury.
Acting as the sequel to the 2018 crime film Den of Thieves – which, despite receiving mixed critical reviews, fared better at the box office – the film sees Butler reprise his role as Nicholas ‘Big Nick’ O’Brien.
However, Butler revealed that he was actually facing severe injuries while shooting the movie, which features a significant amount of action scenes.
Directed by Christian Gudegast, the film sees Butler’s character attempting to stop O’Shea Jackson Jr. ‘s Donnie Wilson from committing a heist.
Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Butler shared, “This was a weird time for me at the beginning of this movie because I’d been through a pretty intense surgery, and then I tore my ACL fully about a month later and then started this movie.”
“So I was not in the best shape, and it was a pretty physical movie, and I didn’t have a chance to get the surgery on my ACL, so I made this movie with a freshly torn ACL, and it was pretty rough,” he added.
The actor admitted that he didn’t find shooting particularly easy as a result. Butler continued: “But yeah… I wanted to put a ‘but’ in to make it sound positive, but it wasn’t positive; it was a nightmare and I was a whiny little bitch!”
Den of Thieves 2: Pantera also stars Evin Ahmad, Meadow Williams, Salvatore Esposito, and Swen Temmel. The movie is now available in theatres across the United States, although there is no information about its release elsewhere in the world just yet.
