George Clooney tells Quentin Tarantino to “fuck off” over alleged insulting remark

Hollywood star George Clooney has alleged that director Quentin Tarantino recently made disparaging remarks about his career, which he admits have “irritated” him greatly.

Clooney is back on the promotional trail as he is set to feature alongside his former Ocean’s co-star, Brad Pitt, in the new movie, Wolfs. The film arrives in cinemas on September 20th, 2024, for a limited release before launching on Apple TV+ a week later.

Notably, both Pitt and Clooney have worked with Tarantino through their respective illustrious careers. Clooney teamed up with the director in 1996 on From Dusk Till Dawn, while Pitt won an Academy Award for his performance in Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

During a new joint interview with GQ, Clooney expressed his frustrations towards the filmmaker and claimed that Tarantino had recently made derogatory comments about his recent acting career. “Quentin said some shit about me recently, so I’m a little irritated by him,” Clooney began by stating.

The former E.R. star elaborated: “He did some interview where he was naming movie stars, and he was talking about (Brad Pitt), and somebody else, and then this guy goes, ‘Well, what about George?’ He goes, he’s not a movie star. And then he literally said something like, ‘Name me a movie since the millennium.’ And I was like, ‘Since the millennium? That’s kind of my whole fucking career.’”

Since 2000, Clooney has starred in a litany of highly-successful movies, such as the Ocean’s series, The Men Who Stare at Goats, Intolerable Cruelty, and The Descendants. He’s also set to appear in an untitled film by acclaimed director, Noah Baumbach, in 2025.

Therefore, considering that the bulk of Clooney’s acting work has occurred in the 21st century, he didn’t take kindly to Tarantino’s alleged comments, adding, “So now I’m like, all right, dude, fuck off. I don’t mind giving him shit.”

What did Tarantino say about George Clooney?

Despite Clooney responding to remarks made by Tarantino, he didn’t reference a specific interview from the director, and there are no trace of comments online in a similar vein.

Nevertheless, Tarantino does have a history of upsetting actors. He previously landed himself into hot water for lamenting the lack of superstars that have been created in recent years and pointed the blame at Marvel.

During an appearance on Tom Segura’s podcast, 2 Bears 1 Cave, the director said: “Part of the Marvel-isation of Hollywood is… you have all these actors who have become famous playing these characters. But they’re not movie stars. Right?”

He continued: “Captain America is the star. Or Thor is the star. I mean, I’m not the first person to say that. I think that’s been said a zillion times, you know, but it’s like, you know, it’s these franchise characters that become a star.”

In response, Marvel star Simu Liu criticised Tarantino for his verbal assault against superhero movies, stating they have “made sustained efforts to improve diversity onscreen by creating heroes that empower and inspire people of all communities everywhere”.
