George Clooney condemns Donald Trump’s Iran threat: “That’s a war crime”

George Clooney has condemned Donald Trump for his Truth Social post on April 7th, threatening Iran.

Trump, who later that day struck a last-minute deal with the Iranian regime for a two-week ceasefire, wrote, “A whole civilisation will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will.”

His post continued, “However, now that we have complete and total regime change, where different, smarter, and less radicalised minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, who knows? We will find out tonight.”

Now, Clooney, who is a prominent member of the Democratic Party and critic of Trump, has vehemently condemned the US president while at an event in Italy.

He told the Italian news agency Ansa, “Some people say Donald Trump is fine, but if someone says he wants to end civilisation, that’s a war crime.”

Clooney then implied that Trump’s remarks overstepped the boundaries expected to be withheld by elected officials, adding, “You can still support the conservative point of view, but there has to be a line of decency, and we must not cross it.”

The Hollywood star then expressed his fears about the US potentially withdrawing from NATO, sharing with Italian media, “I’m worried about NATO; it has ensured the safety of Europe, but also the rest of the world. Dismantling an institution like this worries me. Besides many mistakes, I believe the US has also done many extraordinary things that have survived.”

After acknowledging it’s “not a great moment in American history”, Clooney also criticised his own team, the Democratic Party, for their handling of the 2024 election campaign, admitting, “It was a terrible blow when we weren’t allowed to hold primaries to choose a Democratic Party candidate.”

Notably, Clooney called for Joe Biden to withdraw from his bid for re-election shortly before he stepped down, with Kamala Harris being inserted into the race without opposition.

Last year, Clooney criticised media organisations for settling lawsuits made by Trump, which led to the president to call him “a second rate movie star and failed political pundit”.
