Geezer Butler hints at future music: “Whatever happens, happens”
Black Sabbath guitarist Geezer Butler has hinted that he may have new music on the horizon.
Butler was in attendance at the celebrity bowling party Bowl For Ronnie. The annual event benefits the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up And Shout Cancer Fund, in Studio City, California.
At the event, Butler was interviewed by the former Anthrax singer Neil Turbin for Canada’s The Metal Voice. During that interview, Turbin asked the famed guitarist about his future plans in the music industry.
Replying secretively, the Black Sabbath legend said, “Well, I’m always writing, I’m always playing. So, whatever happens, happens.”
He also took the time to reflect on his relationship with the late Ozzy Osbourne and Ronnie James Dio, admitting wistfully, “None of us had egos or anything like that. [It was] just like four or five friends getting together and doing what we loved best.”
Turning his attention to Osbourne’s last ever show, the farewell show for Black Sabbath titled Back to the Beginning, held in Birmingham earlier this year, Butler reflected, “Ozzy was determined to do it.”
He continued, ” He really was. It’s just a shame that he went so quickly after it, ’cause we were all planning on getting together for Christmas and reflecting back and everything.”
Previously reflecting on the momentous occasion, Butler shared, “I was just shocked to see him like that. And, of course, being Ozzy, he had to crack a few jokes and things. And they had like an armchair set aside so he could sit down to sing through the songs, ’cause he couldn’t stand up.”
Of course, the metal icon passed away not three weeks later from a heart attack, as well as complications from Parkinson’s Disease, which he was diagnosed with in 2003.
Despite the new hint that there may be new music on the way, Butler has not released a solo album since Ohmwork in 2005. However, his solo work was compiled in the 2021 box set Manipulations Of The Mind – The Complete Collection.
