Gary Oldman is narrating the new ‘David Bowie Is’ augmented reality app.
Coming to a phone near you soon, the app will give viewers a tour through Bowie’s life in the form of a travelling art exhibition. The digital, virtual adaptation of the exhibition “mirrors the physical exhibition through a sequence of audio-visual spaces through which the works and artefacts of Bowie’s life can be explored,” according to a press release.
Built to handle 3D exploration of Bowie’s costumes, handwritten lyrics, diary entries and more, a mix of Oldman’s voice and recordings from Bowie guide users through the work.
“This brings the amazing David Bowie Is exhibition to a wider audience. It’s great that his fans get to experience it. It was a privilege to be involved,” Oldman said in a press release.
“I see him less as ‘David Bowie’ and more as ‘Dave from Brixton and I’m Gary from New Cross’,” he added.
The app will be available on January 8 in celebration of what would have been Bowie’s 72nd birthday.
