Gang Of Four “supreme leader” and guitarist Andy Gill has died age 64

We are very sad to announce that guitarist and founding member of Gang Of Four, Andy Gill has died at the age of 64.

It was announced today on the band’s Twitter account that their “supreme leader” Andy Gill has passed away.

“This is so hard for us to write, but our great friend and Supreme Leader has died today,” the statement reads. “Andy’s final tour in November was the only way he was ever really going to bow out; with a Stratocaster around his neck, screaming with feedback and deafening the front row.”

It is signed by the entire band; John Sterry, Thomas McNeice and Tobias Humble, the letter goes on to describe Gill as “one of the best to ever do it.” They also shared touching moments of friendship including his “endless cups of Darjeeling tea.”

They go on to add that “his influence on guitar music and the creative process was inspiring for us, as well as everyone who worked alongside him and listened to his music.”

RIP Andy.
