Gal Gadot blames poor reception for ‘Snow White’ on Hollywood pressure to “speak against Israel”

During a new conversation on Israeli TV, Gal Gadot has shared her thoughts on why Disney’s live-action Snow White failed to connect with audiences at the box office.

The movie felt like it could be one of the few live-action remakes to succeed for the studio but it didn’t hit the heights expected, taking $205million against its budget of $240million.

Appearing on the programme The A Talks, a progressive show where guests are interviewed by people on the autism spectrum, the actor suggested that wider political pressures were the reason for the film’s poor performance in Hollywood.

“There’s pressure on celebrities to speak against Israel,” Gadot said, noting that such dynamics were not confined to the entertainment industry. The actor took on the role of the Evil Queen in what should have been a career-defining role.

“It happened,” she added bluntly in defending her position. “I was disappointed that the movie was incredibly affected by all of that and that it didn’t do well at the box office. But that’s how it goes. You win some, you lose some.”

Alongside Gadot, the remake featured Rachel Zegler as the iconic Disney princess, with Andrew Burnap, Patrick Page, and Ansu Kabia rounding out the cast.

While audiences ultimately stayed away, some critics remained receptive. Many claimed the picture represented one of Disney’s better attempts to bring an animated classic into a new space.

However, for the most part, the picture failed to capture the attention of audiences and the release was quickly forgotten.
