‘Full House’ actor Dave Coulier reveals second cancer diagnosis

Full House actor Dave Coulier has revealed that he has been diagnosed with a second form of cancer, after surviving non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2024.

Appearing on the Today Show, the beloved actor revealed that doctors noticed 16 squamous carcinomas at the base of his tongue during a routine check-up in October.

He revealed that he is set to undergo 35 rounds of radiation before the end of the year. The cancer “could [have] stemmed from having an HPV virus up to 30 years ago,” he shared.

His iteration of the common virus led to tongue cancer: “A lot of people carry the HPV virus, but they said mine activated and turned into a carcinoma.”

The star, who plays Uncle Joey in Full House, was diagnosed with Stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma last year. He later celebrated being free from the form of blood cancer this March.

Coulier explained incredulously, “It turned out that I have P16 squamous carcinoma at the base of my tongue. So I said to the doctors, ‘Well, did this happen because of the lymphoma?’ And they said, ‘Totally unrelated.'”

The new cancer has a 90 per cent curability rate, Coulier shared. He added, “The thing that has really saved my life is that early detection saved my life, not just the first time but the second time as well.”

Coulier continued earnestly, “So I hope you’re getting your check-ups. I hope you get your colonoscopies and breast exams and prostate exams, they will save your life.”

Looking ahead at the new road to recovery, Coulier seems hopeful. He shared, “The doctor said the prognosis is good, but we’re going to start radiation immediately.” He hopes that the worst of the radiation therapy will be over in time for the new year.

He added, “It’s a whole different animal than chemo. It doesn’t feel as aggressive, but there are still side effects.”

Coulier appeared in all 192 episodes of the beloved sitcom, Full House. He later reprised his role for the 2016 reboot, Fuller House, which ran for five seasons.
