Former Baroness drummer Allen Blickle dead at 42

Allen Blickle, former drummer with the metal band Baroness, has died aged 42.

Blickle joined the band in 2003, but departed the Savannah, Georgia, group a decade later after they endured a horrific bus crash while on tour in Europe in 2012.

Blickle fractured his vertebrae in the accident, as did bassist Matt Maggioni, while singer John Baizley broke an arm and a leg on the left side of his body.

His death was announced by Laura Pleasants of Kylesa, who is also part of the Georgia rock scene. She wrote on Instagram on September 7th: “Dear Allen… I was so heartbroken when talking w Joe and Summer the other day; finding out how the past month was. I am just gutted, dude.”

She continued: “We all thought you had this thing beat. Fuck, we were supposed to hang out when I got back from tour I feel so lucky to have reconnected with you after moving to LA a few years ago.”

Pleasants added, “Spending time w you out here, playing music, going to shows, hanging at a pool party, rocking the Hell out to FEAR… getting to know you on a deeper lever was a real privilege. You were a REAL one! So talented, so rad.”

The Kylesa musician concluded the message by writing, “Gone too soon my friend. I’m glad you are at peace and no longer in pain.”

As of writing, Baroness are yet to comment on Blickle’s passing, and no cause of death has been provided.
