Foo Fighters perform 'Times Like These' at Joe Biden's inauguration celebration

Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters usually keep themselves to themselves when it comes to politics, but following perhaps one of the most tumultuous presidential terms in recent memory, the former Nirvana drummer came out of the shadows and showed his allegiance to the Democrats with a powerful performance.

America is currently in the process of licking the collective wounds left behind by Donald Trump. As such, the inauguration of the new president, Joe Biden, wasn’t just a celebration of victory but also an opportunity to broadcast a message of unity and hope. There’s perhaps no better Foo Fighters song than ‘Times Like These’ to help spread that message.

The band performed remotely as par of Celebrating America; a TV show held to mark the presidential inauguration of Joe Biden. The song was a perfect choice, and Grohl even introduced the 2002 single with a nod to his mother and the rest of the teaching community when he dedicated the track to “all of our unshakeable teachers that continue to enlighten our nation’s kids every day.”

The singer continued: “This year, our teachers were faced with unprecedented challenges, but through dedication and creativity, they faced those challenges head-on.”

Grohl went on to name-check three teachers personally. Of course, giving praise to his mother as well as the new First Lady Dr Jill Biden who is also a teacher. Grohl then paid special tribute to Washington kindergarten teacher Mackenzie Adams who has been sharing educational videos throughout lockdown.

You can watch Grohl and the rest of the Foo Fighters perform ‘Times Like These’ below.
