Florence Welch reveals how Nick Cave helped with the new album: “An incredibly wonderful human being “
Florence Welch, frontwoman of Florence and the Machine, has praised Nick Cave for all his help thus far in her career, deeming him an “incredibly wonderful human being“.
Newly chatting with Rolling Stone about the new project, which includes 12 tracks, including huge hit singles, ‘Everybody Scream’ and ‘One of the Greats’, Welch has opened up about how Cave helped her through the tougher moments.
The 39-year-old star shared candidly, “Nick Cave has been so kind to me. Nick and Susie Cave have just been the most wonderful and kind friends. I sent Nick some of my poetry, and he helped me edit some.”
She went on to reveal that she kept a constant stream of conversation with him during periods of touring. Welch said, “[I’d] write him stressed emails from tour, and he would reply and be so kind. As someone who’s such a physical performer as well, he understood what I was putting myself through. He’s an incredibly wonderful human being.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Welch revealed which the 1975 track she was listening to when she name-dropped the British indie band on the song ‘Music by Men’. In it, she sings, “Breaking my bones/Getting four out of five/Listening to a song by the 1975/I thought, ‘Fuck it, I might as well give music by men a try.” Welch revealed that she was talking about the hit ‘Love It If We Made It’ from the album A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships.
Deeming her new abum the best full-length across her entire disography, Far Out wrote, “Between the true horror of its lead title track, to her reflections on fame in ‘One of the Greats’ and candid portraiture in ‘Music by Men’, this not only feels like a step forward for Welch in terms of her ethereal sonic universe, but also breaking down metatextural barriers across the rest of pop music.”
Florence and the Machine will be taking the new album, released on October 31st, on tour across the UK, Europe, and North America in 2026.
