We’ve finally got a proper look at the brand new Ghostbusters reboot titled Ghostbusters: Afterlife, starring Finn Wolfhard, Celeste O’Connor, Mckenna Grace and Paul Rudd, and thankfully it looks pretty great.
Directed by Jason Reitman, the son of Ivan Reitman who directed the first two iconic pictures, the film has been a long time in the making. The film follows a single mother and her two children as they move to a haunted house in Oklahoma before discovering an even bigger problem rumbling beneath the surface of their new hometown.
As we can see in the latest trailer, it will be the first Ghostbusters film since the original sequel in 1989 to feature each of the original cast members, bar Harold Ramis who tragically passed away in 2014. Despite this, each of Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis appear in the footage linked below, giving fans of the original film a large frisson of nostalgia as the characters revisit the Ghostbusters original TV advert, announcing in crackly audio “Are you troubled by strange noises in the middle of the night?”.
While the 2016 all-female reboot performed incredibly well at the box office it was widely lampooned by fans of the original as well as being notable for its misogynistic and racial faux pas. Ghostbusters: Afterlife is looking to tug on the heartstrings of the film series’ original fans, however, including several pieces of famous iconography, from the Ecto-1 to the ‘Terror Dogs’ that rise from the earth.
Released worldwide in November, take a look at the brand new trailer below.
