Finn Wolfhard confirms he’s working on The Replacements biopic
Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard has confirmed he’s working on a biopic exploring the career of cult classic rock group The Replacements.
For the project, Wolfhard is teaming up with his father, Eric Wolfhard, who is responsible for his son being a fan of the band, and producer Rich Peete.
According to Variety, the film will be based on Bob Mehr’s book, Trouble Boys: The True Story of the Replacements, with the Wolfhard father and son pairing working together to produce a screenplay.
Wolfhard later confirmed the news of the biopic to be true by sharing a number of images on Instagram, including of The Replacements, and one of him with his father.
He wrote on Instagram, “One of my parents’ first dates was to a Replacements concert. Then I was born! As Westerberg once said ‘Let’s let em down.'”
The Replacements, consisting of Paul Westenberg, Bob Stinson, Tommy Stinson and Chris Mars, may never have become chart-topping stars during their initial time together, but they were one of the most influential rock acts of the 1980s.
Notably, when the opportunity did arrive for The Replacements to break the big time in 1986 when they fittingly received a last-minute call-up as the musical guests on Saturday Night Live. However, the performance ended in infamy when they became the first act to be banned from appearing on the programme by Lorne Michaels.
They eventually reunited in 2013 for a two-year stint, which saw The Replacements perform at iconic festivals including Riot Fest and Coachella, as well as headline tours. However, no new music appeared, and they announced they would be parting ways again on stage at Primavera Sound in Porto in 2015.
As it stands, there is no further information on the casting of The Replacements biopic and when it is expected to enter production.
