When it comes to UK city centre festivals, Sheffield has been doing it right for many years now. With such a rich musical heritage, it’s not hard to believe that this South Yorkshire City is the home to one of the most interesting and enjoyable events of the festival season.

The entire Steel City quite literally opens its doors, as over 70 official and unofficial venues play host to bands and DJs from dusk till dawn. As well, the streets are quite literally alive with buskers, street performers and pop up bars and stalls, meaning festivals dwellers can’t turn their heads without becoming engrossed in the infectious vibe of this incredible party.

Bang Bang Romeo

If you’re looking to check out some local talent over the weekend, there’s plenty on offer including Sheffield’s very own Bang Bang Romeo. This four piece are quite simply a must see, a powerhouse of atmospheric guitar riffs and a frontwoman whose vocal prowess will have you memorised. It’s been a while since we last caught them and we can’t wait to check them out this year on the Main Stage.

Hinds

What can we say? We just love Hinds. The Spanish four-piece’s laid back attitude and sound is quite simply infectious. You better hope the sun is shining, as these girls take to the Main Stage on Sunday afternoon. Expect good fun, great music and plenty of satisfied customers.

WHERE/WHEN/HOW MUCH: 70+ venues spread across Sheffield City Centre. Friday 22th July – Sunday 24th July. 3 Day Weekend Pass £42, Saturday Pass £23, Sunday Pass – SOLD OUT (after party tickets also available to purchase on the festival website).

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:  With such a vast spread unfortunately you’re never going to see it all. Be sure to plan your days wisely and take advantage of the tram routes to various different venues and points around the city – you’ll even be treated to some live music along the way, as nearly all trains host performances over the weekend. While no one likes to queue, getting to venues early (especially the smaller ones) is essential to make sure you get in.

If you only do one thing while you’re there…

Take the time to soak up and enjoy the electric atmosphere Tramlines brings to this city. With so much going on it sometimes feels like a blink and you’ll miss it type of situation. Take a stroll down Division Street in the afternoon to really get that festival feeling.
