Billed as ‘an international music festival held at a unique industrial site’, Colours of Ostrava is a special summer festival experience held in Ostrava, north-east Czech Republic.
With its history steeped in coal mining, the site is situated in the city’s Dolní Vítkovice – a former blast furnace, mine and ironworks giving Colours of Ostrava a truly authentic industrial back drop.
Offering a hugely varied array of music, theatre, films, discussions and art, Colours of Ostrava brags over 300 things on the bill over the four days.
With something on offer to tickle all sorts of fancies, this Central European festival sets itself aside the rest by offering a truly diverse line-up in a truly unique setting.
Now back for its 14th year, Colours of Ostrava has both indoor and outdoor venues for you to enjoy and with a modest price tag of just €97 (or £75) for four days, this is a trip you should seriously be considering this summer.

FAR OUT SAYS DON’T MISS:
After all these years Slowdive have announced that two lucky festivals will be given the chance to witness shoegaze royalty in the flesh; Colours of Ostrava is one of those festivals.
Having seen the likes of My Bloody Valentine and Loop return to the stage Slowdive followed suit with their comeback in 2014, a Slowdive Twitter account followed by all the band members (excluding Halstead) announced the reunion. So, if you decide to head over to Ostrava you’ll witness this in the wonderfully brutal industrial setting:
The entrepreneurs of progressive breakbeat are making a stop off in the Czech Republic as part of there summer European tour. With a new album just landed last month (their seventh under the MK2 moniker – or ninth overall) this dynamic duo are never to be missed. Expect Hyde and Smith to bring a party like no other.
For your weekend fix of something a bit more local check out the Czech Republic’s very own The Atavists. This 60s surf infused four-piece released their debut EP Bad Times last year and it’s a whole lot of fucking cool. The filthy distorted sound and classic rock and roll vocal melodies put these guys on our list of must sees over the weekend.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: With over 300 billed things to do including music, films, workshops, art and exhibitions, a little planning may go a long way. Keep an eye on the festival’s website as they will be publishing a program around a month before the festival.
As cheap as the ticket price is, it does not include camping or accommodation. Camping at the festival site is already sold out, but camping at the nearby Slezskoostravský hrad area can be booked separately on the festival’s website. There’s also an extensive list of handpicked accommodation alternatives including hotels, guest houses and hostels as well.
“Held at Ostrava’s Dolní Vítkovice site in the zone of a protected former ironworks, mine and steelworks, the festival offers visitors exceptional industrial beauty,” reads the website.. and they’re not wrong:
WHILE YOU’RE THERE MAKE SURE YOU: Make sure you don’t forget to check out the Bolt Café at the Blast Furnace, where you get transported 80 metres above the ground for a bite. If eating ain’t your thing over a festival weekend though, get yourself up there just to marvel at the incredible views of this unique site.
