Far Out’s guide to the must see gigs this Independent Venue Week
January. It remains one hell of a slog of a month. We have no money, we’re knackered, it’s cold, and it’s miserable. Seven days have never passed so slowly, but as these long weeks drag by, and January ticks on, there is light at the end of the tunnel in the form of Independent Venue Week.
Founded by Sybil Bell, Independent Venue Week continues to grow and help cool spaces around the country stay open. Music lovers everywhere know how important independent venues are to local scenes, but it’s nice to have something during what is usually a bleak time of the year dedicated to reminding us. During the final week in January, artists of all genres under the sun bundle into independent spaces around the country and celebrate the great music which can be made when genuine creativity is encouraged.
There has never been a better time to get out of your house and go watch some live music. These venues deserve our support all year long, and it’s good that we’re reminded of how great it can be watching music in them at the very beginning of it. No matter what genre you like, what kind of environment you’re looking for, there’s something out there for you during Independent Venue Week. In fact, the choice is so vast that it can be hard to narrow them down.
In anticipation of such a thrilling week, the staff at Far Out have put together a map of the gigs they’d most recommend catching.
