‘Euphoria’ star “disappointed” by season three delay

In spite of its title, the production around HBO’s Euphoria seems endlessly cursed. Over two years have passed since the premiere of the second series of the hit television programme, and now the network has announced further delays in the production of series three, leaving both the cast and their legions of fans in the lurch about how the story ends.

For those who haven’t seen the show, it’s essentially an American incarnation of Skins, following the lives of drug-addled and sex-obsessed high school students as they struggle to find their place in the world. The show has been something of a cultural phenomenon since its first series aired back in 2019, spawning the careers of various stars, including Sydney Sweeney, Maude Apatow and Storm Reid, among many others.

Originally, the third instalment of Euphoria was confirmed in February of 2022, but HBO has recently announced further delays to the production. The series has witnessed a variety of setbacks, from the death of starring actor Angus Cloud as well as executive producer Kevin Turen. In addition, the series was also put on hold as a result of last year’s WGA writer’s strike.

Now, actor Storm Reid has revealed to Variety that she is “A little disappointed” by the delays, though adding that she is “Not surprised”. Reid’s comments suggest that the filming of the third series is not currently in sight, saying, “We would all hope to be able to go back tomorrow, but there are logistics that have to be figured out.”

Despite the repeated delays in production, Reid appears to be hopeful that the popular show will be able to reach its natural end. “I would hope the viewers, the audience will be able to finish the show,” she said. Indeed, the many Euphoria obsessives around the world would probably echo that sentiment as they yearn for a proper conclusion to the tale of Rue Bennett’s struggle with sobriety.

Reid, like many people, seems to hold the programme very dear, having a somewhat protective feeling over Euphoria. “I think we should handle the show with care,” she said, “We’ve put our hearts and soul into it.”

Last November, HBO revealed that the third series of the show would premiere in 2025. However, the network recently announced that filming has, once again, been delayed. So, it remains unclear whether that deadline of 2025 is still realistic or whether fans will have to wait a little longer to check in with the youth of East Highland.
