Erykah Badu announces 25th anniversary tour for ‘Mama’s Gun’
Erykah Badu has announced an extensive tour across North America later this year, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her seminal album Mama’s Gun.
The R&B singer will go on the road for two months between October and December this year, starting on October 3rd in Hollywood, California, before culminating in Irving, Texas on December 10th.
These solo dates on the Mama’s Gun ’25: The Return of Automatic Slim Tour come separately to those she has already announced with The Alchemist, in promotion of their upcoming collaborative album. That string of gigs, named the Abi and Alan Tour, will kick off on August 8th in Seattle, Washington with tickets available now.
Badu’s upcoming album with The Alchemist will mark her first full-length record in some 15 years, being slated for release at some point this summer, although a specific date has not yet been revealed.
However, her upcoming solo tour will mark the milestone anniversary for her prolific sophomore album, originally released in 2000, spawning the hit singles ‘Didn’t Cha Know’ and ‘Bag lady’, the latter of which scored the singer her first top ten hit in the US charts, as well as Grammy nominations for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song.
Despite now being somewhat of a veteran of the scene, Badu still gave a glowing endorsement of the rap industry in an interview with Billboard earlier this year, where she said: “[The thing I like about rap right now] is the same thing I liked about rap when I first met it. Rap is the people. Hip-hop is the people. It’s the folks. It’s the tribe.”
Tickets for Badu’s tour go on sale on August 1st at 10am local time via Ticketmaster, with a Live Nation presale available for selected dates from July 30th using the code LIGHTS.
