Emmys 2024: Watch the cast of ‘Cheers’ reunite

Cast members from the hit American sitcom Cheers reunited at the Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony on Monday, January 15th, 2024.

Ted Danson, Kelsey Grammer, Rhea Perlman, John Ratzenberger, and George Wendt, all part of the cast, took the stage to present the award for ‘Outstanding Directing and Writing for a Comedy Series’.

Throughout its broadcast, Cheers achieved immense popularity and garnered critical acclaim from its inception to its conclusion. The show ran from 1982 to 1993, earning 28 Primetime Emmy Awards and a total of 117 nominations.

Last year, Grammer resurrected his Cheers spin-off, Frasier, with a new instalment. The show’s producers have not dismissed the potential for Grammer’s former Cheers co-stars to appear in upcoming episodes.

Delayed from its typical September schedule due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes in the summer of 2023, the Emmys align with events such as the Golden Globes and Baftas, occurring in the initial months of the subsequent year.

Taking home the esteemed accolade this year was HBO’s Succession, The Bear, Beef, RuPaul’s Drag Race, and others. Jennifer Coolidge dedicated her award to “evil gays”, while Ali Wong became the first Asian woman with a lead role win.

During her acceptance speech, Wong acknowledged the support her family has provided. She said: “I wouldn’t be standing here without my parents, my amazing parents, my father who I so wish was alive to share this moment with me, my hilarious father who loved me unconditionally and taught me the value of failure.”
