Emily Blunt to star in new Steven Spielberg movie
Following the success of action flick The Fall Guy earlier this year, Emily Blunt is in talks to star in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming summer blockbuster.
Few details are known about Spielberg’s new offering, but the project has been described as an “event movie” set to arrive in May 2026. David Koepp will pen the script, which features two leading roles, one of which might go to Blunt.
Sources told Deadline that the Oppenheimer star is currently in early talks to star in the film, which would mark her first collaboration with the legendary blockbuster director. It would also mark Spielberg’s first summer blockbuster in six years, since the release of Ready Player One in 2018.
Though Blunt may be new to the world of Spielberg blockbusters, Koepp is a long-term collaborator of the director. He has previously worked with Spielberg on some of his biggest blockbuster franchises: Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones.
Meanwhile, Kristie Macosko Krieger is set to earn her 10th production credit for Spielberg. She previously worked with the director in a producer role on War Horse, The Post, and, most recently, The Fabelmans in 2022. Outside of her work with Spielberg, her recent producing credits include last year’s The Color Purple and Maestro.
Since the release of his last film, The Fablemans, Spielberg has produced another entry into the Indiana Jones universe last year and is currently producing another Jurassic Park sequel. Jurassic City, directed by Gareth Edwards, is set to arrive next summer. Meanwhile, Blunt has been making her own waves in the blockbuster realm.
The actor revisited the apocalyptic world of A Quiet Place in John Krasinski’s sequel in 2020, earned an Academy Award nomination for her performance opposite Cillian Murphy in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, and, most recently, starred in the stunt-focused action flick The Fall Guy with Ryan Gosling. Perhaps Blunt’s growing presence in the blockbuster realm attracted Spielberg’s attention.
The star is currently focused on an A24 biopic with fellow Oppenheimer star and cult director Benny Safdie at the helm. The Smashing Machine, which is set for release this December, will follow the life of wrestler Mark Kerr. Action star Dwayne Johnson will play the real-life athlete, while Blunt will play Dawn Staples, Kerr’s partner.
Spielberg’s untitled blockbuster is set to arrive next summer on May 15th, 2026. Further casting details are yet to be revealed.
