Elton John to wave goodbye to Mexico with two farewell shows
Elton John is bidding farewell to Mexico with two shows taking place at Mexico City’s Estadio Banorte on October 2nd and 3rd.
The news comes three years after John concluded his last-ever concert tour, billed as the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour.
Since then, the ‘Rocket Man’ singer has played one-off sets, private shows, and benefit concerts across the world. This marks the first time since 2023 that John has announced a formal arena show.
“Mexico City has always held a special place in my heart,” John shared in a statement.
He went on, “I was truly disappointed that the pandemic kept me from touring Latin America during my Farewell tour, which makes this return especially meaningful.”
‘The Rocketman’ added, “I’m thrilled to finally share this very special moment with my fans after all these years…”
He will subsequently return to the region for the first time in 14 years, for the two shows officially billed as John’s Farewell to Mexico.
In 2025, the singer-songwriter released his last album, Who Believes in Angels?, a collaboration with Brandi Carlile.
Earlier this year, he also opened up about the severe eye infection he contracted in 2024, which caused “devastating” consequences to his eyesight. In May, he admitted that he felt “fucked at the moment”, but was still finding a way to create new music despite the ailment.
Later this year, John will make another rare live appearance at Brazil’s Rock in Rio after being unable to visit the region during his extensive farewell tour, headlining the closing night of the festival on September 7th.
Despite these new shows, last year John heavily hinted that he found little enjoyment in live performances: “I don’t miss playing live at all. I do not miss playing live. Fact. I do not miss it one iota. I’ve done some private shows where I, you know, to keep my chops ready, and that’s been great,” he admitted in a Radio 2 interview.
