Eiza González reveals she “lost faith completely” after father’s death

Mexican actor Eiza González has opened up about the death of her father and the battle with grief that ensued following his passing.

González was only 12 years old when her father suddenly passed following a fatal motorcycle accident. At this stage, she was already a child actor, and now, the star has explained how work became her form of escape to stop herself from having to grieve.

During an appearance on Pedd Badgeley’s podcast, Podcrushed, González said of her late father: “My dad was a really good man. He cared about people so much. And I just couldn’t connect, the unfairness of him dying. I just was like, ‘(Of) all the fucking shitty people in the world, him?'”

She also explained how his passing led her to question her Christian faith, adding, “It made me not believe in anything bigger… I lost faith completely. And I had a real hard realisation of my dynamic with my father. I wasn’t able to cry for four years. Four or five years – I didn’t cry at all. I was just in complete and utter denial. And, simultaneously, I started my career, and I needed to cry a lot for work.”

The Ash star then heartbreakingly said that “something died in me” upon his passing and that she chose to “just completely removed myself from my father.” She added: “Like, I just couldn’t. It was so unbearable that I just sort of walked away.”

González then recalled how she threw herself into acting in order to occupy her mind, stating, “It was a really tough time. I dove into work. I was in survival mode constantly.”

Her new film, Ash, was released on March 21st, 2025. Flying Lotus directed the science fiction horror, which also stars Breaking Bad actor Aaron Paul.
