Duffy announces first live show in 15 years after kidnapping incident

Welsh singer-songwriter Duffy has announced her first concert in over 15 years, following her disappearance from public life after a traumatic kidnapping and sexual assault incident.

The beloved Welsh star made the announcement via her Instagram story, where she told fans that she is set to host a “secret intimate gig” on July 5th in an undisclosed London location.

She added, “It’s only small capacity so we can only select a few, but really looking forward to it. I will sing some new songs.”

Fans were then encouraged to leave their information in a free ballot, which asked for date of birth, location, and contact details.

After signing up, interested parties will receive an email expressing Duffy’s gratitude, while adding that “winners will be notified via email on June 15th.”

In March, it was revealed that the performer would give her first official interview for a Disney+ documentary, sharing her experience of the traumatic ordeal that led to her sudden disappearance from the music industry just as she began to soar to new heights.

Duffy’s 2008 multi-platinum album, Rockferry, and lead single ‘Mercy’ led to global acclaim. Despite this, Duffy hasn’t released music since her second album Endlessly in 2010.

In 2020, the star returned only to share a statement explaining that the hiatus had stemmed from an incident where she was drugged, kidnapped, and severely sexually assaulted.

“It was my birthday, I was drugged at a restaurant, I was drugged then for four weeks, and travelled to a foreign country,” Duffy shared about the situation on her website.

She had added in the lengthy essay that she feared for her life during the terrifying ordeal, as the perpetrator had made “veiled confessions of wanting to kill me”.
