Drummer Ted McKenna has died aged 68


Ted McKenna, a Scottish drummer who has played with bands The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, Rory Gallagher, The Michael Schenker Group, has died at the age of 68.

McKenna sadly died after a routine operation for a hernia suffered complications and surgeons cold not stop a haemorrhage.

The news of McKenna’s death was confirmed on social media by a close friend of the family: “For everyone who loved him, Ted died this morning from a haemorrhage during elective surgery. Freak occurrence and a huge surgical team fought for 10 hours to save him,” the wrote.

“Unfortunately there was no solution to stop the bleeding and he faded away without ever knowing. I’m going to miss him so much.”

Born in Lennoxtown, Scotland, in 1950, McKenna has been an active and well respected musician since the late 60s and played on all seven of The Sensational Alex Harvey Band’s studio albums as well as being a prolific session player.
