Dropkick Murphys suspended from X after insulting Donald Trump and Elon Musk
Dropkick Murphys have been suspended from social media platform X after insulting President Donald Trump and his right-hand man, Elon Musk, at a series of concerts and during a recent interview.
The Celtic-punk group’s lead singer, Ken Casey, has been an open and vocal critic of Trump for many years since the former host of The Apprentice ventured into politics. Casey often uses his live shows as a vehicle to express his opinion on the Republican politician, as well as Musk, who also owns X.
In a new conversation with MeidasTouch, Casey shared of the band’s political values: “One other thing Dropkick Murphys has always been about is a lot of songs about standing with your friends and family and the things you believe in, whether it’s politics, or just how you were raised. And Donald Trump is the exact opposite of everything we sing about.”
The frontman continued: “He’s turned on his friends. He’s turned on America’s friends and our allies. He’s a rat and a coward when you think of it that way. America shouldn’t be turning on our allies.”
When Dropkick Murphys performed in Boston on March 16th for their annual St Patrick’s Day celebration, Casey poked fun at an audience member who wore a MAGA hat.
Per Variety, he asked the audience, “If you’re in a room full of people and you want to know who’s in a cult, how do you know?,” before answering his own question, “They’ve been holding up a fucking hat the whole night to represent a president.”
Casey also made a broader statement aimed towards Trump supporters, stating, “This is America, there’s no kings here. Anyway, sir, we’re gonna play a song about our grandparents and people who fought Nazis in the war and shit. So if you could just shut the fuck up for five minutes.”
The frontman then described the audience’s choice of MAGA hat as the “Elon Musk True Nazi edition,” referencing the salute made by the Tesla owner following Trump’s inauguration.
UPDATE: Ken Casey has clarified Dropkick Murphys account suspension on X, telling Consequence, “We broke up with him first. We quit Twitter in 2022 when he was only half a Nazi. Then someone else took our handle, pretending to be our official account, so we filed a legal complaint to put a stop to that — which is why @dropkickmurphys shows as suspended. Look, we pulled our account because we didn’t want to be part of that guy’s empire. But if we were still on there, I’m sure he would have suspended us by now.”
