Donald Glover reveals a stroke and other health issues forced him to cancel his 2024 tour
Donald Glover has revealed that he was forced to cancel his tour last year after suffering a stroke.
Donald Glover, whose stage name is Childish Gambino, cancelled his North American, UK and European tour dates in 2024. Subsequently, he cancelled further dates across Australia and New Zealand.
At that time he shared, “Hey, everyone. Unfortunately, I have to postpone the rest of the North American tour to focus on my physical health for a few weeks. Hold onto your tickets. All tickets will be honoured for the upcoming dates in North America when they are rescheduled. Thanks for the privacy. Thanks for the support. Thanks for the love.”
On November 22nd, Glover played a set at Tyler, The Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw, where he opened up to the crowd about the ordeal.
He began, “I had a really bad pain in my head in Louisiana, and I did the show anyway.”
He added, “I couldn’t really see well, so when we went to Houston, I went to the hospital, and the doctor was like, ‘You had a stroke.’”
Glover continued, “And the first thing I thought was like, ‘Oh, here I am still copying Jamie Foxx’…That’s really like the second thing. The first thing was like, ‘I’m letting everybody down.’”
The singer-songwriter then talked through his own guilt, before adding, “I broke my foot, they found a hole in my heart. So I had this surgery, and then I had to have another surgery.”
Earnestly, he mused, “They say everybody has two lives, and the second life starts when you realise you have one. You got one life guys, and I gotta be honest, the life I have lived with you guys has been such a blessing.”
He finished, “You should be living your life how you want. If we have to do this again, it can only get better.”
