Diet Cig have returned after two years away from new music with another reason to fall in love with the dreamy duo. ‘Night Terrors’ is our Track of the Day.
It’s the first song back for Alex Luciano and Noah Bowman since their 2017 record Swear I’m Good At This had us reeling in awe of their pop-punk power. The new single is just another reminder of their talent.
That talent largely resides on the duo’s ability to write bratty and brash punk with a core of delicate, honest sentimentality running throughout. ‘Night Terrors’ is an extension of that skill.
“This song centers around my very real and frequent experiences with night terrors and other bizarre sleep activity,” Luciano explains. “If we’re close enough to have ever shared a room, you know what I’m talking about. This song goes out to you.”
“The idea of night terrors also represents the fact that no matter how hard I try to curate a specific and perfect version of myself, the embarrassing, weird, unlikable parts are always going to be there too. The people I’m closest with will always end up seeing them, when they inevitably come hurling out of me like my night terrors in the middle of the night. This song’s about holding onto that hope that the real ones will like me even with all my weird freaky stuff underneath. Even when I’m screaming at them in my sleep from across the hotel room.”
It’s a barnstomring new track from the band and one that has us hoping out for a new full-length record in the coming months. But to keep us preoccupied until then, take a listen to ‘Night Terrors’ below.
The band have also shared some UK dates to get everyone excited too:

04/05 Brighton, The Hope and Ruin
05/05 Manchester, YES
