Diane Keaton death: Leonardo DiCaprio and Goldie Hawn lead tributes to Oscar-winning icon
Following the death of Hollywood icon Diane Keaton, stars of the movie industry have paid tribute to the Oscar-winner.
A family spokesperson confirmed to People that Keaton had died in California on October 11th; no further details have been given, and her cause of death remains undisclosed.
The Keaton family have asked for privacy during this time.
The late star won the Academy Award for ‘Best Actress’ thanks to her performance in Woody Allen’s Annie Hall in 1977. She was also nominated in the same category on a further three occasions for Reds, Marvin’s Room, and Something’s Gotta Give.
Ben Stiller has led the tributes for Keaton, writing on X, “Diane Keaton. One of the greatest film actors ever. An icon of style, humor and comedy. Brilliant. What a person.”
Bette Midler, who co-starred with Keaton in The First Wives Club, took to Instagram to write: “The brilliant, beautiful, extraordinary Diane Keaton has died. I cannot tell you how unbearably sad this makes me.”
Midler continued, “She was hilarious, a complete original, and completely without guile, or any of the competitiveness one would have expected from such a star. What you saw was who she was…oh, la, lala.”
Kimberley Williams-Paisley, who played Keaton’s daughter in Father of the Bride, also shared on Instagram, “Diane, working with you will always be one of the highlights of my life.”

She poignantly continued, “You are one of a kind, and it was thrilling to be in your orbit for a time. Thank you for your kindness, your generosity, your talent, and above all, your laughter.”
Rosie O’Donnell took to Instragram to share with her followers that news of Keaton’s death “breaks my heart” and sent her “love to her children- what style what grace – she will be missed”.
Additionally, Kate Hudson, whose mother Goldie Hawn worked closely with Keaton, shared a clip from Hawn and Keaton’s movie, The First Wives Club, along with the caption, “We love you so much Diane.”
Hawn later wrote herself on social media, “Diane, we aren’t ready to lose you”. She continued by noting how Keaton “never liked praise, so humble, but now you can’t tell me to ‘shut up’ honey. There was, and will be, no one like you. … I’m going to miss the hell out of you”.
Director Paul Feig, best known for Bridesmaids, emotionally posted on X: “I was so honored to call Diane Keaton a friend. She was an amazingly kind and creative person who also just happened to be a Hollywood legend. She has been taken from us far too soon. We will miss you, Diane.”
Meanwhile, British actor Reece Dinsdale said on X, “Goodnight screen goddess and style icon”.
Jeremy O Harris also wrote on the same social media platform, “RIP to one of America’s most graceful, elegant, and fiercely talented muses Diane Keaton who maintained a sense of self throughout her many roles that was a reminder to me as a young performer that the most interesting person you can mine are the many aspects of yourself.”

Her Marvin’s Room co-star Leonardo DiCaprio took to Instagram Stories to write, “Diane Keaton was one of a kind. Brilliant, funny and unapologetically herself. A legend, an icon and a truly kind human being.”
Jane Fonda emotionally shared on Instagram alongside an image of Keaton, “Diane has passed. She was always a spark of life and light, constantly giggling at her own foibles, being limitlessly creative…in her acting, her wardrobe, her books, her friends, her homes, her library, her world view. Unique is what she was. And, though she didn’t know it or wouldn’t admit it, man she was a fine actress!”
Michael Douglas shared a glorious image of the pair smiling together alongside the heartbreaking caption, “RIP to my friend Diane Keaton. A heartbreaking loss of one of the greatest icons in our industry. I have so many fond memories of working with Diane on our film And So It Goes nearly twelve years ago. Sending my deepest condolences to the Keaton family during this difficult time.”
Keaton is survived by her two adoptive children.
