It seems Brighton may be the cultural Mecca for all things long haired and sounding fucking great, because low and behold the city has done it again, they produced a piece of gritty rock and roll. This time with the incredibly infectious (honestly, they might be infectious) Demob Happy and their song ‘Suffer You’ which has to be Saturday’s Track of the Day.
There is all you would expect these days from a Brightonian band, a laconic angst which lingers around every note coupled with a wide eyed acceptance of the beauty of the world and topped off with a punk ethos that’s ready to destroy every last piece of it. Demob Happy are the typifying band of this growing scene and ‘Suffer You’ only goes to prove that.
The song splices an urgency and directness with Marcantonio’s vocal which changes between a steam train delivery and a screaming yearning which mould together to create a sound which has all the makings of a great rock and roll record whilst remaining refreshingly original.
Smart and relevant but ultimately still full of all the spit and sawdust charm one would want ‘Suffer You’ is showing that Demob Happy have earned their title as one of the mos exciting bands in the country and definitely the most promising rock on the seaside, they really are something to sink your teeth into.
