Debbie Harry performing John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s ‘Happy Xmas (War Is Over)’

Back in 2008, Debbie Harry joined forces with the Middle Church East Village Gospel Choir to celebrate Christmas.

The original version, released in 1977, was the seventh single release by Lennon outside his work with the Beatles and included a contribution from the Harlem Community Choir in what was also used as a protest song against the Vietnam war.

So, Harry’s decision then to perform with Middle Church East Village Gospel Choir on December 19th 2008, is a fitting one. The church, who base their belief on love and justice, also triumph LGBQT rights and fight racism from every angle.

Harry has made no secret of her admiration for John Lennon over the years and, in 2014, the Blondie extraordinaire performed live at the 34th annual John Lennon charity concert. Interestingly, Lennon himself was a big advocate of Harry and once wrote Ringo Starr a postcard advising him to write more songs like Heart Of Glass?.

Anyway, enough of all that, Merry Christmas from Blondie!
