David Squires delves into… Marlon Brando, Michael Jackson, and Elizabeth Taylor’s supposed escapade

It’s wild enough to imagine that Marlon Brando, Michael Jackson, and Elizabeth Taylor were all friends, let alone that they shared a rather significant road trip together.

Yet, according to Sam Kashner, the author of Elizabeth Taylor’s Closing Act, this unlikely trio all plunged into the same car headed out of New York City as the cataclysm of 9/11 unfolded. The only issue they faced as they drove to safety was the fact that Brando was characteristically hungry.

The service stations that day were blighted by Brando’s cravings. As Kashner writes, “One can only imagine the shock their appearance caused at gas stations and rest stops across America.” Indeed, it was a sad and surreal day for KFC workers all over the Eastern reach of the US.

While Taylor’s assistant has since come forward to deny the claim, insisting that the actor remained in New York, briefly prayed in church, before actually heading to Ground Zero, where she began “ministering to the frightened and wounded”. Yet, this assistant’s story also is presently uncorroborated.

So, for now, in his latest comic strip, David Squires presents the myth that may or may not have actually happened…
