David Byrne shares new single ‘She Explains Things To Me’
David Byrne has unveiled the uplifting second single, ‘She Explains Things To Me’, from his forthcoming album Who Is The Sky?
Byrne confirmed details of his upcoming album last month along with unleashing the delightful, summer-ready lead single, ‘Everybody Laughs’. Who Is The Sky? is set for release on September 5th through Matador Records, marking his first full-length effort since American Utopia in 2018.
The album is produced by Kid Harpoon, best known for his Grammy-winning work with Harry Styles, with arrangement duties handled by New York-based chamber ensemble Ghost Train Orchestra. It also features a series of very special guests, including St Vincent and Hayley Williams.
As Byrne continues to tease the upcoming record, he’s now shared ‘She Explains Things To Me’, and says of the new track: “Many times I have marveled at how a friend (usually a female friend) seems to clock what is going on in a film between characters way before I do.”
The former Talking Heads frontman continued: “Sometimes I understand poetry, but sometimes I need help. Though inspired by the Solnit book ‘men explain things to me’ there is a huge difference- mansplaining is usually unasked for, in this case I am the one asking.”
Reflecting on the album, Byrne previously said: “At my age, at least for me, there’s a ‘don’t give a shit about what people think’ attitude that kicks in. I can step outside my comfort zone with the knowledge that I kind of know who I am by now and sort of know what I’m doing.”
He will also be taking the LP on the road later this year and in 2026. Due to phenomenal demand, Byrne has added new dates, including extra shows in Philadelphia, Chicago and San Francisco, as well as a standalone concert at Rockhal Main Hallin in Luxembourg.
The tour will kick off in Providence at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium on September 14th before travelling across North America. In January, Byrne will bring the tour to Australia and New Zealand before travelling to the UK and Europe in February for a six-week run. In the UK, he will play Cardiff, Manchester, Glasgow and three shows at London’s Eventim Apollo.
