Dave Edmunds critically ill following major cardiac arrest
Welsh rock singer Dave Edmunds is critically ill in hospital after suffering a major cardiac arrest, according to his wife.
Edmunds is best known for the Christmas number one single ‘I Hear You Knocking’, which topped the charts in 1970. He retired from the music industry in 2017.
His wife, Cici Edmunds, took to Facebook to write: “My beloved husband of 40 years has had a major cardiac arrest as I told you about in my previous post.” She then explained how he “died in her arms”, but thankfully, they were able to resuscitate him through “heavy CPR” which Cici described as a “miracle”.
She continued: “I’m still in shock and I believe I have PTSD from the horrific experience. My brilliant talented funny and special Dave could really use as many peoples prayers and good wishes so to speak.”
While Edmunds was brought back to life, Cici stressed that he “very clearly has brain damage and severe memory loss”. She also expressed her fears that “the risk of yet another major cardiac arrest is high” and admitted “if that occurs there is no chance for Dave”.
Cici added, “Dave will have a very long journey ahead of him if he survives. We both have,” before thanking friends and family for making the “tremendously difficult journey a little easier”.
Edmunds first found fame in the late 1960s as the frontman of Love Sculpture, before embarking upon a fruitful solo career that peaked with the chart-topping ‘I Hear You Knocking’, which has sold more than three million copies.
Additionally, Edmunds toured as a member of Ringo Starr’s All-Starr Band in 1992 before rejoining the group briefly in 2000. He also worked with Paul McCartney, Jeff Lynne and Status Quo.
