Heavy metal icon Glenn Danzig has revealed that his Elvis covers album will be released in April.
Danzig, better known as the founder of the bands such as Misfits, Samhain and Danzig, will release the Danzig sings Elvis album on April 17th. His new album will be followed by two live performances in late April and, according to his team, more will be announced next week for Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Little details around his planned live shows have been released but we do know that they will be “small intimate seated performances as Danzig wants to try to capture an Old Vegas Night Club atmosphere for these two special shows.”
“Every time I have downtime, or if I was working on soundtrack stuff I would just record another Elvis track or two,” he said while speaking to the radio host Full Metal Jackie. “So what started out as an EP, I now have more than enough for a full album.”
Later, in an interview with Rolling Stone, Danzig explained the influence Elvis had on forming his creative vision. “Elvis is actually kind of how I got into music,” Danzig said. “When I was a kid, I was cutting school pretending I was sick and I would lie at home watching old movies, and ‘Jailhouse Rock’ came on with Elvis.
“I was, like, ‘I want to do this. This is great.’ And that’s how I veered to music.”
