Danny Trejo debunks claims he’s dead: “Fake news”

Actor Danny Trejo has responded to social media claims that he’s dead, labelling the malicious claims as “fake news”.

Over the weekend, a post began to circulate on Instagram, which gained traction when comedian and actor John Leguizamo shared it on his account. Trejo previously made a guest appearance in Leguizamo’s Nickelodeon programme, The Brothers García, in 2003.

However, despite the history shared between the two men, there is no truth to the post that Leguizamo shared.

“Thank you all for your concern but I am very much alive. Someone is spreading fake news,” Trejo wrote on Instagram Stories, debunking the reports of his death.

In 2021, Trejo published his memoirs, Trejo: My Life of Crime, Redemption, and Hollywood, which saw him open up about his battle with liver cancer in 2010, which he chose to keep private at the time as he didn’t want it to impact his career.

He told People of his cancer battle, “They gave me injections right into the tumor, three times, seven needles and boom, after about six months, I came back and they said, ‘You’re cancer free’.”

The Breaking Bad actor also reflected, “I’ve lived a good life, I went from underneath the bottom to this beautiful life I’ve got now so I just started being thankful for all the years I have had. And I beat it – I’m completely clear now.”

Meanwhile, in 2023, Trejo, who is an advocate for recovery, shared, “I’m 55 years clean and sober today by the grace of God! I’ve done this one day at a time, and for anyone out there struggling YOU CAN TOO.”

The actor, who is now aged 81, most recently appeared in the 2024 science-fiction comedy, Tim Travers and the Time Traveler’s Paradox, alongside Joel McHale.
