Damon Albarn is set to curate his own re-imagination of Lewis Carroll classic Alice in Wonderland, on stage in a new musical.
‘wonder.land’ will tell the tale of 12-year-old Aly whose unhappy home and school life drives her to turn to an online ‘virtual world’ to find happiness and re-invent herself.
Online Aly re-creates herself away from her shit everyday life – but it’s only a matter of time before the boundaries are blurred and these worlds collide.
Set to premier in at Manchester’s Palace Theatre as part of Manchester International Film Festival in July, the ex-blur and Gorillaz frontman will provide the score with vocals provided by Moira Buffini.
Speaking about the project Albarn said: “I’m fascinated by the idea of going down the rabbit hole, the otherworldliness and what that might mean.” Deep.
