Crystal Castles’ Ethan Kath facing official sex crimes investigation

Crystal Castles co-founder Ethan Kath – whose real name is Claudio Palmieri – is facing a sex crimes investigation by the Toronto Police Department.

The specific information of the allegations have yet to be released but the investigation stems from a detailed essay published by Kath’s former bandmate Alice Glass, who claims the abuse started when she just 15.

However, Kath has denied all wrongdoing. “These sickening and vile allegations are an attempt to injure my client’s reputation and in turn hurt actual victims of abuse,” Kath’s lawyer confirmed to Pitchfork.

In a new statement issued on her website, Glass explains detailed and lengthy claims of stalking, physical abuse and sexual abuse as well as being forced to have sex with Ethan Kath (real name Claudio Palmieri).

“I met ‘Ethan Kath’ (Claudio Palmieri) when I was in the 10th grade,” Glass writes. “The first time he took advantage of me was when I was around 15.” To add to the harrowing accusations, she says: “He forced me to have sex with him or, he said, I wouldn’t be allowed to be in the band anymore.”

However, after initially issuing a denial, Kath has decided to take legal action against Glass claiming she is “still bitter about their break-up” and is “just trying to get attention to jumpstart her new musical venture.” Kath also explains how he believes that Glass’ mental health is a reason for the ‘lies’.

Taking the situation a step further, Kath hired a person to pretend to be a fan of Glass’ music only to hand over a court summons: “Just got served after my show in Chicago by someone pretending to be fan,” Glass wrote on Twitter. “See you in court asshole,” she added.

Now, facing a wave of scrutiny, Kath has responded to the claims in a statement issued to Pitchfork by his attorney: “I am outraged and hurt by the recent statements made by Alice about me and our prior relationship,” he said.

“Her story is pure fiction and I am consulting my lawyers as to my legal options. Fortunately, there are many witnesses who can and will confirm that I was never abusive to Alice.”
