Cristiano Ronaldo launches movie studio with director Matthew Vaughn
Portuguese footballing icon Cristiano Ronaldo and English director Matthew Vaughn have joined forces to launch their new independent movie studio, UR MARV.
An announcement for the new studio reads: “Cristiano Ronaldo loves movies; Matthew Vaughn loves sport – and they both love a good story. Both have been disruptive champions at their game and will now combine the world of sport and storytelling through the launch of UR MARV, an independent joint venture film studio embracing innovative technology, with a nod to tradition.”
In a personal statement, Portugal’s all-time leading goalscorer said: “This is an exciting chapter for me, as I look ahead to new ventures in business.”
Meanwhile, Vaughn praised Ronaldo’s record-breaking career, stating, “Cristiano has created stories on the pitch that I could never have written, and I look forward to creating inspiring movies with him – he’s a real-life superhero.”
Together, the duo has already financed and produced two action movies, and work is set to begin shortly on a third in the same film series. Details of their first release are expected to be announced shortly.
Vaughn’s career has seen him direct celebrated movies such as Layer Cake, Kick-Ass, and X-Men: First Class. He has also helmed the Kingsman series, starring Taron Edgerton, which has spawned two movies, a prequel and the 2024 spin-off Argylle.
Two more Kingsman movies are in development: The King’s Man: The Traitor King and Kingsman: The Blue Blood.
Details on the action film series that UR MARV are currently working on, including casting, have yet to be revealed.
