Creator Dan Harmon shares ‘Community’ movie update
Having kept up its bargain to fulfil the prophecy of six seasons and a movie, creator Dan Harmon has offered an update on how the long-awaited Community film is progressing.
It’s been a long time coming, though, with the series finale airing in June 2015, but the movie wasn’t officially announced until September 2022 when it was ordered by streaming service Peacock.
Virtually the entire cast of the popular comedy will be returning with the notable exception of Chevy Chase, who burned his bridges by being insensitive and critical of both the show and its creative direction.
Donald Glover recently offered an update saying the “script was done,” although he clarified that he’d yet to read it himself. Nonetheless, the Troy Barnes star confirmed that regardless of when it was finished, he was “all in.”
Speaking to Variety, Harmon confirmed Glover’s comments, even if he stopped short of intimating that cameras were almost ready to roll. “I can confirm Donald Glover’s report that I told him the script was done,” he said. “But I will also say Donald’s sources are so unreliable because the script is always ‘almost done.’”
Keeping his cards close to his chest, the only information Harmon would offer is that “it’s set on the campus of Greendale Community College.” Besides the obvious, he also shared how he’s “super excited about it, and we’re almost done.”
Scheduling could prove to be the biggest issue in getting the band back together, with Harmon revealing he’s “been having kind of a nervous breakdown the last couple of months just by working on it.” It’s definitely happening sooner rather than later, and that’s enough for Community‘s legion of fans.
