Courtney Barnett announces new album, ‘Creature of Habit’, shares Waxahatchee collaboration and tour dates

Courtney Barnett has confirmed details of her new album, Creature of Habit, which will arrive on March 27th through Fiction Records.

The Australian singer-songwriter first teased the upcoming record back in October when she returned with the delightful single, ‘Stay In Your Lane‘, which she has now followed up with the brand new Waxahatchee collaboration, ‘Site Unseen’.

For Barnett, the new record details an eventful period in her life after she waved goodbye to Melbourne for Los Angeles after making the incredibly difficult decision to close Milk! Records in 2023.

Barnett co-founded Milk! 2012 with fellow artist Jen Cloher, and it was responsible for more than 60 releases over that time.

On ‘Site Unseen’, Barnett sings of her move across the world, “Letting go of everything that might have been and if we like it here, we’ll stay another year,” as well as, “Let’s figure out the rest another day”.

In a statement, Barnett explained of the song’s lengthy creative process to get over the finishing line, “I tried 3 separate times over 2 years to track this song, and each time it either wasn’t finished or didn’t sound right and each time we had to start again.”

Thankfully, Katie Crutchfield of Waxahatchee was on hand to assist, with Barnett adding, “I kept hearing this really high harmony in my head, so for the fourth and final version, I asked Katie if she’d be into singing it with me. I’m a big Waxahatchee fan. I really love Katie’s songwriting and her voice, so it was an honour to have her sing on ‘Site Unseen’.”

In support of the new album, Barnett is set to hit the road across North America. The tour will begin in Austin on May 1st, hitting up cities including Dallas, Nashville, Houston, Brooklyn, Washington, Philadelphia, Toronto, Boston, Seattle, Portland, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, and Denver.

The tour will end with a huge show at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles on August 29th. As it stands, no European and UK dates have been announced, but there is a sizeable gap in Barnett’s touring calendar in June and July.
