The Coral and The Sugarhill Gang will headline a brand new festival in the rolling Great Manchester hills this summer when Cotton Clouds arrives.
This one-day event will launch in August and bridge the gap between the picturesque sensation of a remote countryside festival and the no-hassle convenience of the major city all-dayer.
Cotton Clouds will pitch up at Saddleworth Cricket Club, which sits on the outskirts of Oldham, just a stone’s throw (or 20-minute train ride) away from Manchester city centre.
Its inaugural lineup is an accessible mix of old and new, with the aforementioned bill-toppers being joined by the likes of PINS, The Blinders and The Sundowners.
As well as a huge outdoor Main Stage, Cotton Clouds will also host two more intimate indoor spaces, curated by Charlatans’ frontman Tim Burgess’ ‘Tim Peaks Diner’ and new Manchester venue Jimmy’s.
Throw in the usual smattering of street food, craft ale, DJ sets from the likes of Inspiral Carperts’ Clint Boon and kids entertainment, and 40 quid for the day doesn’t sound too shabby.
Here’s what organisers Rick & Max Lees have to say: “Saddleworth is a beautiful setting for a festival and has a rich musical heritage, but there hasn’t been a music event of this scale here since The Jam played in 1979. We hope to build a reputable event that becomes part of the UK festival scene over the coming years.”
