The comedian who hates Adam Sandler with a passion: “I used to be a huge fan”

Even though an alarming percentage of his filmography is made up of awful, awful comedies, Adam Sandler seems like a nice guy, and most of the people who know or have worked with him think the same thing, too.

Becoming part of the Happy Madison family must be one of the cushiest gigs in Hollywood. If the actor and producer works with someone once and like them, it’s basically a job for life, with the ‘Sandman’ constantly expanding his repertory on both sides of the camera, creating a cabal of cast and crew members who are always working, even if what they’re working on frequently sucks.

The most annoying thing about Sandler, apart from some of the characters he’s played, is that he knows he’s been coasting for years, if not decades. Every now and again, he’ll show up in something like Punch-Drunk Love, Uncut Gems, or Hustle to remind everyone that he’s actually a great actor, and then it’s back to mugging for the camera in Happy Gilmore sequels.

His lowbrow sense of humour has been irritating comedians since his Saturday Night Live days, and while Andy Kindler was never part of the show, he happily added himself to the list of people who believe that Sandler squandered his potential by becoming inordinately wealthy, explaining that everything fresh about his schtick had been stripped away and replaced by a laser-focused determination to make money.

“I’ve been making fun of him for years, just for the fact that his movies are never reviewed,” Kindler explained to LAist. “He doesn’t even put them out to be reviewed. And just consider the Pixels movie; it doesn’t sound like he listens to a whole pitch.” Going after a five-time Razzie-nominated film is aiming for low-hanging fruit, but The Ridiculous 6 is even lower.

“Basically, I said that Native Americans who walked off the set of the movie said they would prefer another genocide,” the comic said, not quite establishing himself as politically correct. “They would prefer once again to be slaughtered by the white man than to stay on this movie.” It’s true that some actors quit the production, but Kindler didn’t need to put such an offensive slant on it.

What stings him the most is that he “used to be a huge Adam Sandler fan,” until he became a movie star, which left him feeling that the SNL alum “could be doing better, but for some reason decided to go with the money.” Sandler’s net worth is estimated to be rapidly closing in on half a billion dollars, which is more than enough to turn anyone’s head.

How does Sandler feel about Kindler constantly trashing him and his work, including Happy Gilmore 2, which he called “garbage time”? Well, according to the latter, they crossed paths at a memorial service for Ken Ober after the actor and comedian’s death, where the former responded by saying, “Don’t worry, I’m not going to hit you,” so he’s definitely aware that shots have been fired in his direction.
